Impressionist painters where once the “BAD ASS” radicals of the world of art, deemed unacceptable to be shown with real art. Somewhere through art history this was forgotten and now they are so respectable that reproductions hang in my grandmothers bathroom……A hard to follow turn. How did this happen? When did grandma’s bathroom become a gage of respectability. It’s even more confusing when R.Mutts fountain is remembered. This was an installation created in the now defunct Crane Factory, which made the sinks and toilets in my grandmother’s bathroom. The puddle shape of water, the placement in the Crane Factory, the fact you could walk on it, the impressionist inspired approach to the paints application and the eyes looking back at you all question this history. |
